A 10% waste allowance covers most straight-lay installations. Diagonal layouts, small rooms with lots of cuts, or a first-time DIY job often call for 15% instead.
How do I measure my room for tile?
Measure the length and width of the floor in feet at the widest points, and multiply them to get the square footage, ignoring cabinets or fixtures you'll tile around.
What tile size uses the least waste?
Larger tiles generally mean less grout line and can look like less waste per square foot, but odd-shaped rooms may still need more cuts regardless of tile size.
